Aerobic Activity
If you are a patient of the Valley Metabolic Health Clinic we will help individualize and guide you in starting physical activity. This may be moving more, sitting less, going up some stairs, or going for walks around the block. The important thing is that it is tailored to your own preferences and goals. This is called an “exercise prescription.” If you are not a patient of our clinic you can talk with your primary care physician or nurse practitioner. The prescription can be downloaded here:

High Intensity Interval Training
If you are ready for a more intense and efficient work out, high intensity interval training may be right for you. The link below is a 7 minute work out and is tailored for people with a good foundation of fitness and no active heart problems. Please inquire with your doctor if you have any concerns about starting this program.

Resistance training brings to mind lifting weights and gyms but it is actually quite safe and can be done at home with simple equipment such as a resistance band. It increases strenth, balance, and improves metabolic health. The links take you to brochures as well as a video from Diabetes Canada but the same exercises are useful for many chronic diseases.
